If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, think about joining one of the races at Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve and Austin Creek State Recreation Area. These races benefit Stewards of the Coast & Redwoods, a member of the California ReLeaf Network.
The event begins and ends in Armstrong Redwoods State Park among ancient 1,200 +year old redwoods, more than 300 feet high! These trails are the most beautiful coastal redwood trails found in California. The 9 km distance will run almost entirely through the redwood trails.
The 17 km distance will continue to Austin Creek SRA. The trail runs through old growth trees along Gilliam Creek. It is magical. It returns to Armstrong Redwoods on a fire trail.
The 30 km and 50 km continue along Gilliam Creek and will enjoy some technical challenges, including 10 creek crossings. Yes, you might get wet feet. You might also see and abundance of wildlife on one of the most pristine trails you may ever experience. Fire trails bring you back to Armstrong Redwoods. The 50 km distance will enjoy another loop through the redwoods.
