CAL FIRE and the U.S. Forest Service recently announced $30.9 million in grant awards for Urban and Community Forestry investments throughout California. The funding was made possible through the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).
We are thrilled to announce that we were among the 22 organizations awarded funding. California ReLeaf has been awarded $2.9 million, which will fund our new pass-through grant program called California Canopy Equity. Our new pass-through grant program will support community-based organizations to expand and maintain urban tree canopies in underserved communities through a robust technical assistance program. We will be partnering with three organizations to help support pass-through grant applicants and awardees. To expand inclusivity and support more Spanish-speaking communities, we will be partnering with the Hispanic Arborist Association and the Hispanic Access Foundation. To assist community-based organizations in selecting climate-adapted trees best suited for their project and geographic area, we will be partnering with the Urban Forest Ecosystems Institute (UFEI) at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) San Luis Obispo.
Stay tuned to learn more about our upcoming pass-through grant opportunity and how your organization can apply for funding. More information will be released this winter.
