UC Irvine Earns Tree Campus USA Designation

UC Irvine was built centered on Aldrich Park instead of the traditional college quad. Today, the university boasts more than 24,000 trees on campus – a quarter of them inside Aldrich Park alone. These trees have helped UC Irvine join other California universities UC Davis and UC San Diego on the list of 74 campuses nationwide that are designated as Tree Campus USAs by the Arbor Day Foundation.

“It’s an important part of our legacy and our future to stand here today in Aldrich Park,” Chancellor Michael Drake told the crowd of volunteers gathered to plant even more trees in celebration of the honor.
