Our City Forest Seeks Deputy Director

OUR CITY FOREST, Silicon Valley’s award-winning urban forestry nonprofit and a California ReLeaf Network member, is seeking an experienced professional to fill the newly created position of DEPUTY DIRECTOR. The position will oversee field-related operations carried out by 4 staff program managers and 25 full-time AmeriCorps service members. Programs and operations under the purview of the Deputy will include project development and contracting, planting and maintenance operations, tree evaluations/inventory programs, and the full-scale community tree nursery.

 

 

Our City Forest (OCF) performs valuable community services year-round on behalf of dozens of local agencies and at the request of thousands of residents. OCF’s model places a significant focus on engaging and educating residents in order to cultivate environmental stewardship, without which planting efforts would not ultimately succeed. More than 5,000 volunteers are recruited, trained and supported annually. While the bulk of activity takes place within the San José metro area, OCF also partners with additional cities in Santa Clara County.

 

 

Minimum requirements:

  • 5 years program management experience;
  • 4-year degree minimum;
  • 3 years grants management, including state and federal reporting;
  • 4 years experience managing full-time employees; high level data base management expertise (Excel, Filemaker Pro);
  • Extensive program management experience involving report generation, budget tracking, and financial reporting;
  • Excellent written and communication skills.

 

 

Experience & education in one or more of the following fields or a closely related field also required: public administration, arboriculture, environmental services, urban planning, transportation, grants management, nonprofit administration, landscape design, habitat restoration, vegetation management. An advanced degree and/or certification is highly desirable.

 

 

A successful candidate for this position is a strong manager with experience managing staff teams and tracking multiple projects successfully; understands the potential as well as complexities of developing CBO/government partnerships; fully supports maximum community engagement as a best practice; desires to join a highly committed, passionate nonprofit team; is dedicated to OCF’s mission and philosophy; prefers a team-based working environment; is creative and resourceful; and is adept at bringing out the best in others.

 

 

This is a full-time permanent position with medical benefits. Starting salary is $67,000 to $70,000 based on experience. Projected start date is no sooner than August 11, 2014 and no later than September 15, 2014.
